About Me

Since July 2016 I have been working as a Children's Services Librarian at the Forest Avenue branch of The Des Moines Public Library. As a Des Moines native, I am so happy to be working for and giving back to my hometown community.

In May 2016 I received my Masters in Library and Information Science from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in History from Iowa State University in December 2011.

Professional Statement

While pursuing my MLIS, I obtained a Certificate in Youth Services. While I  love working with youth and am passionate about serving them, my ultimate career goal is to work in any avenue that empowers communities and their members, particularly in underserved and underrepresented areas. I believe in creating library spaces which give people of all ages opportunities to engage with each other and within their respective communities while also supporting curious minds looking for captivating books, engaging programming, and other riveting resources.

Personal Hobbies

When I'm not doing professional research or working at a library, I enjoy storytelling, writing poetry and fiction, and reading (of course). Sometimes I go on culinary adventures and try new recipes way above my skill level. I love camping, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors. I study cetology (whales) and ecology when I need to escape the world of libraries and books.
